The Practice

The room is part of the work.

A conversation, an organization, a board meeting, a performance, a community—each has conditions that shape what can be seen, said, heard, and imagined within it.

MarQuis Devon Hunt pays attention to those conditions.

His practice begins upstream of the obvious problem: listening for the assumptions beneath the language, the relationships beneath the decisions, and the patterns that may be limiting what a person or group can recognize from where they currently stand.

The work is not simply to bring an answer into the room. It is to help make a different kind of room possible—one in which people can see more clearly, encounter one another differently, and discover capacities that were already present but difficult to access.

The form changes. The practice underneath it does not.
